Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He is a British author. The novel series "Sherlock Holmes" is very popular all over the world. Holmes is referred to a "consulting detective" in the stories. He is known for his proficiency with observation, deduction, forensic science, and logical reasoning when investigating cases. He offered his service for a wide variety of clients of the society including Scotland Yard.
Most stories are narrated by the character of Holmes's friend and biographer Dr.John H. Watson. He is the one who accompanies Holmes during many of his investigations and also the roommate who shares the quarters with him. They lived in London at the address of 221B Baker Street, London. It is the place where many of the stories begin. Sherlock Holmes is not the first fictional detective. But, obviously he is the best known. By the 1990s, there were already over 25,000 stage adaptations, films, television productions and publications of the story. There is also a Guinness World Records that lists him as the most portrayed literary human character in film and television history. Because of Holmes's popularity and fame, people believed that he is not a fictional character but a real individual. Dr. Watson describes Holmes as "bohemian" in his daily habits and lifestyle. He describes that Holmes has a "cat-like" love of personal cleanliness. But at the same time, he is an eccentric who has no regard for contemporary standards of tidiness or good order. Watson says that Holmes is one of the most untidy men that ever drove a roommate to distraction.
